Frequently asked questions:

1
Where is Kyrgyzstan located?
Kyrgyzstan is a landlocked country in Central Asia, bordered by Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and China. It’s known for its dramatic mountain landscapes, alpine lakes, and nomadic culture, with over 90% of the country covered by mountains — primarily the Tian Shan range.
2
Is Kyrgyzstan safe to visit?
Yes — Kyrgyzstan is generally considered safe for travelers, including solo travelers and women. Violent crime is rare, and locals are known for their hospitality. As with anywhere, basic travel awareness is recommended, especially in cities, but overall it’s a welcoming and peaceful destination.
3
How do you get to Kyrgyzstan?
Most travelers fly into Manas International Airport (FRU) in Bishkek. Common routing is via Istanbul, Dubai, or other major hubs in Central Asia. From Bishkek, travel throughout the country is typically done by private vehicle or organized transport due to the remote terrain.
4
Do I need a visa?
Many nationalities — including Canada, the US, UK, EU, Australia, and New Zealand — can enter Kyrgyzstan visa-free for up to 60 days. Passport validity of at least six months is recommended. Always double-check requirements based on your passport before departure.
5
What are accommodations like?
Accommodations in Kyrgyzstan range from:
Hotels and guesthouses in cities like Bishkek and Karakol
Family-run homestays in rural areas
Traditional yurts in high mountain regions like Son-Kul
Expect simple, clean, and culturally rich stays rather than luxury — comfort comes from the experience and surroundings.
6
Service Name
Describe your service here. What makes it great? Use short catchy text to tell people what you offer, and the benefits they will receive. A great description gets readers in the mood, and makes them more likely to go ahead and book.
7
Is there cell service or Wi-Fi?
Cell service is available in cities and towns, but limited or nonexistent in remote mountain areas. Wi-Fi can be spotty and slow outside of major centers. Many travelers purchase a local SIM card in Bishkek. This trip is best approached as a partial digital detox.
8
Can I swim at the beaches?
Yes — swimming is possible in some lakes, but be aware that mountain lakes are very cold year-round. Places like Issyk-Kul are more popular for swimming, while high-altitude lakes like Son-Kul or Kel Suu are more about scenery than comfort swimming.
9
What should I pack?
Kyrgyzstan’s weather and terrain vary widely, so layering is key.
Recommended items include:
-Hiking boots or sturdy shoes
-Warm layers (even in summer)
-Rain jacket or windbreaker
-Sun protection (hat, sunscreen, sunglasses)
-Modest clothing for villages and mosques
-Small backpack for day trips
-Comfort, practicality, and adaptability matter more than fashion.
